Planetary Bases
Summary
Planetary Bases are player-built structures in No Man's Sky (NMS) that allow players to establish permanent or temporary locations across planets and moons. Bases can serve as homes, research facilities, farms, resource operations, storage sites, trading outposts, or purely decorative builds.
Details
Base Building
Players can construct bases using a wide variety of building parts, including:
- Structural rooms and corridors
- Prefabricated buildings
- Walls, floors, roofs, and foundations
- Doors, windows, and stairs
- Decorative objects
- Furniture and interior decorations
- Landing pads
- Teleporters
- Storage containers
- Refiners
- Agricultural equipment
- Specialist terminals
- Power-generation and electrical components
- Mineral and gas extraction equipment
Base Computer
A Base Computer establishes the location of a planetary base and allows the player to claim and manage the surrounding build area. The Base Computer is also used to name, upload, and manage the base.
Power
Many base technologies require electrical power. Players can generate and distribute power using systems such as:
- Solar Panels
- Batteries
- Electromagnetic Power Generators
- Electrical Wiring
Power management allows automated facilities and other technologies to operate without requiring manual interaction.
Resource Extraction
Bases can be used to establish automated resource operations. Specialized extractors can collect minerals and gases from planetary deposits, while supply depots provide additional storage for extracted resources.
Agriculture
Players can create farms inside or around their bases. Plants can be grown for crafting materials, trade goods, cooking ingredients, and other purposes.
Base Teleporters
A Base Teleporter allows players to quickly travel between their base and other teleport-enabled locations in the galaxy. Teleporters make planetary bases useful as permanent hubs for exploration and resource gathering.
Multiplayer and Sharing
Bases can be uploaded to the No Man's Sky servers, allowing other players to discover and visit them. Base sharing enables players to create communal locations, elaborate architectural builds, farms, resource operations, and landmarks.
Base Types
Planetary bases can serve many different purposes, including:
- Home bases — Personal living spaces and storage hubs
- Resource bases — Automated mineral or gas extraction
- Farms — Agricultural production facilities
- Mining bases — Locations centered around resource deposits
- Industrial bases — Large-scale processing and production facilities
- Research bases — Facilities dedicated to exploration and experimentation
- Trade bases — Locations designed around commerce and resource exchange
- Outposts — Small bases established for exploration or convenience
- Decorative builds — Bases constructed primarily for architectural or artistic purposes
