Planets

Galaxies: Euclid, Eissentam, Oniijialdu, Bahibusey, Cuggnatach, Emiekereks, OdyalutaiSummary

Planets are the primary environments players explore in No Man's Sky (NMS). Each star system contains multiple worlds, with procedurally generated terrain, climates, ecosystems, resources, structures, and points of interest.

Details

Planetary Environments

Planets can vary dramatically in appearance and conditions. Their environments may include:

  • Forests and grasslands
  • Deserts
  • Mountains
  • Oceans and islands
  • Frozen regions
  • Toxic environments
  • Radioactive wastelands
  • Volcanic terrain
  • Barren worlds
  • Exotic and anomalous biomes

Planetary Exploration

Players can explore planets on foot, using Exocraft, or from the air in their starship. Exploration can involve discovering locations, collecting resources, cataloguing flora and fauna, searching for valuable deposits, and uncovering points of interest.

Planetary Resources

Planets contain a wide range of resources used for crafting, construction, trading, and technology. Resources can be obtained from:

  • Mineral deposits
  • Flora
  • Fauna
  • Resource hotspots
  • Underground deposits
  • Planetary structures
  • Buried objects
  • Damaged machinery

Flora and Fauna

Every planet can contain its own procedurally generated ecosystem. Players can discover and catalogue native plants and animals, with species varying greatly between worlds.

Fauna may include terrestrial, aquatic, airborne, and other unusual lifeforms.

Points of Interest

Planetary surfaces can contain numerous locations and structures, including:

  • Buildings
  • Trading Posts
  • Space Stations' planetary counterparts and facilities
  • Abandoned buildings
  • Ancient ruins
  • Monoliths
  • Resource depots
  • Sentinel facilities
  • Crashed ships
  • Other procedurally generated points of interest

Weather and Hazards

Planetary conditions can present environmental hazards. Depending on the world, players may encounter extreme temperatures, toxic atmospheres, radiation, storms, hazardous flora, and other environmental threats.

Players can protect themselves using their Exosuit Hazard Protection and related technologies.

Planetary Bases

Players can establish Planetary Bases on suitable worlds. Bases can function as homes, farms, resource extraction facilities, storage hubs, trading locations, or creative builds.

Planet Discovery

When visiting an undiscovered planet, players can discover and catalogue its environment. Planets, systems, flora, fauna, and other discoveries can be uploaded, allowing discoveries to be recorded and shared across the No Man's Sky universe.
